Bloom: Still Blooming

Bloom is Blackboard’s annual conference for Pinterest’s Black employees and allies. I was a lead for just around 3 years—this was the first time I fully owned the creative direction and production of the event itself.

The brief was entirely self-generated: design a conference that felt worthy of the community it was for. I built the full design system from scratch — color, typography, graphics, merch — and designed every touchpoint from the signage and tote bags to the t-shirts worn on the day. I also conceived and produced a portrait studio, art directing headshots for over 100 employees across Pinterest offices. For many of them it was the first professional portrait they’d had taken.

Process

The moodboard set a tone that had nothing to do with corporate conference. The references were editorial — portraiture, texture, color — because the event deserved to be designed like it mattered. Which it did.
